Fiction genre sprouted in the French belles-lettres, originally every literature with artistic content was called this way. Nowadays, it is exclusively used for artistic prose. In other words, these are the stories enabling readers to take a look at other worlds. Their characters experienced adventures opening the door of understanding life in richer palette and thus shaping life quality at the same time.
