HHC-O and HHC-P: Hidden potential or risk?

The origin of HHC-O

HHC-O, or hexahydrocannabinol acetate, is a new cannabinoid that is similar to its predecessor hexahydrocannabinol (HHC). Unlike HHC, which is found in small quantities directly in the cannabis plant, HHC-O does not occur naturally and is produced exclusively in the laboratory. Acetate is added to the hydrogenated form of HHC using a chemical reaction called acylation.

The addition of the acyl group modifies the structure of the original cannabinoid, which can affect its physical, chemical and biological properties.

Effects of HHC-O

Not much is known about HHC-O and its effects on the human body, there are no clinical studies available yet and research in this area is in its infancy. As with other cannabinoids, the effects depend not only on the dose and route of administration but also on the individual disposition of the user. It also depends on which other cannabinoids and terpenes HHC-O is combined with. You may have heard of the so-called synergistic effect, which is the interplay of substances that can enhance and thus amplify or complement the desired effect.

Thus, in the case of HHC-O, we can draw on the effects attributed to HHC and on experience with other analogue derivatives (e.g. THC-O).

HHC-O may have the following effects:

  • relaxation of the body and mind
  • energy, feeling of euphoria
  • pain relief
  • inducing relaxation
  • improving sleep
  • relief from stress and anxiety

HHC and its derivatives, unlike other well-known and better-studied cannabinoids such as CBD, are psychoactive.

How potent is HHC-P?

HHC-P, or hexahydrocannabiphorol, like HHC-O, is produced synthetically. The chemical structure is similar to HHC, the difference being the length of the alkyl chain, which is two carbon molecules longer in HHC-P.

It is reported that HHC-P could be the most potent cannabinoid discovered to date. This means that, like HHC and HHC-O, it binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system, but with several times the intensity and longer duration of action. The effects of HHC-P usually take a few tens of minutes but can last for several hours. Of course, it also depends on the quality and strength of the extract and the individual predispositions of the user.

Vapes and flowers with HHC-O and HHC-P

HHC-O and HHC-P are sold in the form of vaping pens and cartridges (with terpenes from different varieties), hashes and flowers. Usually HHC distillate is the most abundant, supplemented by HHC-O and HHC-P. If you want to try one of the HHC products, always start with a small batch and follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Possible side effects of HHC-O and HHC-P

As already mentioned, we have little information on the effects of HHC-O and HHC-P. As with HHC, the following difficulties could arise:

  • dry mouth
  • anxiety
  • redness of the eyes
  • insomnia
  • rapid heartbeat
  • dizziness
  • paranoia

The unpleasant symptoms should subside within a few hours. At higher doses or concentrations, the risk of side effects is greater. Because there is not enough information and research on HHC-O and HHC-P, other side effects that are not yet known to us cannot be ruled out.

Conclusion

HHC-O and HHC-P are newly discovered compounds that have been formed by modifying HHC. They are thus very similar in chemical structure to HHC, but may have stronger effects that last longer.

We do not yet have enough information on how HHC-O and HHC-P work, but in the experience of users, these compounds are psychoactive, sedative, can relieve tension and improve sleep, or induce euphoric states. As is the case with HHC and other cannabinoids, HHC-O and HHC-P may cause side effects.

If you are interested in vape foams, flower or hash containing HHC-O or HHC-P, proceed with caution and always choose quality products from trusted manufacturers.
