Hexahydrocannabinol: the right hand of THC

Known/unknown HHC

HHC was first discovered in 1944 when American chemist Roger Adams added hydrogen molecules to conventional THC (delta-9 THC). THC was converted into HHC during hydrogenation. Today, the production process is different, based on technical hemp with a higher proportion of cannabidiol at the expense of THC.

It should be noted that HHC research is still in its early stages. All that is known so far is anecdotal. We do not know all the facts that could influence the final opinions. Likewise, there is a lot of unverified and disputed information surrounding HHC that requires further investigation. There are a few studies and, above all, a lot of feedback from users. Of course, one cannot go by these and rely on the effects, but the experience with HHC makes it easier to choose where to direct further research.

HHC stands for hexahydrocannabinol. For a chemical compound from the cannabis plant in which it is found only in trace amounts. That's what makes production a little more complicated. However, this does not change the fact that HHC, like THC and CBD for example, reacts with the endocannabinoid system and produces various sensations and physical and psychological effects in the body.

Is HHC safe?

HHC is produced from technical hemp (unlike its origins). It differs mainly in its THC content, is used in industry and is very popular, especially for its beneficial effects on the body. HHC is considered a semi-synthetic cannabinoid. It is found in trace amounts directly in hemp, but its production now uses other cannabinoids (CBD) and the facilities of a laboratory where it undergoes a hydrogenation process. It would seem that it has a lot in common with other cannabis ingredients that already have a 'safety label' based on numerous studies. Wrong. We still do not have enough information on which to speak with certainty about the safety of HHC.

HHC je legální, o jeho bezpečnosti se ale vedou debaty. Mezi uživateli je ale čím dál oblíbenější a pohybuje se někde mezi CBD a THC.

At least basic rules such as buying from reputable sources with transparent business practices from consulting to supplying all certifications and analyses tied to the product should be followed.

Is HHC legal?

There is no clear position on the legality of HHC. This is due to its similar chemical structure to THC and its many effects on the human body. With exaggeration it could be said that HHC has the role of a legal substitute for THC.

Users need much more than anecdotal reports and the experiences of others not only for safety and legality, but above all for the effect on the human body. Studies and research are awaited to clearly determine what position to take on HHC. This is likely to be followed by the laws in many countries, adapting the handling of HHC to the expert conclusions. This could happen tomorrow and a year from now. For protection on all fronts, we need to keep an eye on what is happening around the HHC. As of July 2022, this substance is legal in the Czech Republic.

How to use HHC?

HHC can be used in a similar way to other cannabinoids. Unfortunately, it is new to the market and choices are still limited. Only oils, selected edibles, vaping products and HHC flowers are available. However, these hold a pleasant surprise. These are commercially available CBD flowers with a layer of potent hexahydrocannabinol distillate.

Is HHC psychoactive?

Yes. Hexahydrocannabinol has psychoactive effects. Based on user "reviews", high feelings range on an imaginary scale between delta-8 THC and delta-9 THC.

But a lot depends on the experience of the individual, their physiology and their sensitivity and tolerance to cannabis products. You may have tried CBD as well as delta-8 and delta-9 THC and have an idea of what to expect, but it is not advisable to rely on it. HHC may not replicate or mimic known effects.

The difference between HHC and other cannabinoids

The most common comparison is with CBD and THC. From a molecular point of view, all substances are strikingly similar. The differences in their effects on the body only become apparent when they are separated and their unique properties become fully apparent. This is particularly true of the sensations and sensations after use.

What are the effects of HHC?

CBD-like effects have not yet been confirmed, as most of the attention is focused on intoxicating sensations and highs. These are present after using HHC, but in a milder form than after THC. On the other hand, there is no muster for how any substance affects anyone. Many factors can influence the outcome and it is impossible to predict in advance what HHC will do.

What are the benefits of HHC?

Unfortunately, we can only draw on sketchy information from research and user feedback. HHC seems to be an effects halfway between delta-8 THC and delta-9 THC. That is, it may take some of the beneficial effects from delta-8 THC while also taking a share of the psychoactivity of delta-9 THC (estimates suggest it could reach 70%). It is often talked about as apparently replicating CBD beyond the typical properties of THC and its possible pain relief, appetite support, or stress and anxiety relief.
